{"id":1759,"date":"2011-06-17T08:39:08","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T15:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/?p=1759"},"modified":"2011-09-04T12:23:00","modified_gmt":"2011-09-04T19:23:00","slug":"eclipse-for-android-no-targets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/2011\/06\/eclipse-for-android-no-targets\/","title":{"rendered":"Eclipse for Android:  No Build Targets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I installed the Android SDK and the Eclipse IDE for Java and Report Developers, but when I tried to create a new project, the Build Target list was empty.<\/p>\n<p>I had already followed the instructions given in <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/group\/android-beginners\/msg\/e96b5b7eb2874457\">this newsgroup post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/ForceHttps1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/ForceHttps1-300x174.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"ForceHttps\" width=\"300\" height=\"174\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1767\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/ForceHttps1-300x174.png 300w, https:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/ForceHttps1.png 745w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Run the Android SDK and AVD Manager <b>from the Start menu or a command prompt<\/b> (Start | All Programs | Android SDK Tools | SDK Manager, or <tt>C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Android\\android-sdk\\tools\\android.bat<\/tt>).  <b>Do not run it from Eclipse&#8217;s Window menu:  the Settings tab won&#8217;t be available!<\/b><br clear=\"all\" \/>\n<li \/>In Settings, check &#8220;Force https:\/\/ &#8230; sources to be fetched using http:\/\/ &#8230;&#8221;.\n<li>In Available Packages, if &#8220;Android Repository&#8221; is not present, then:\n<ol>\n<li \/>click Add Add-on Site.\n<li \/>enter &#8220;&#8216;https:\/\/dl-ssl.google.com\/android\/repository\/repository.xml&#8221;.\n<li \/>check &#8220;Android Repository&#8221; then check the desired APIs and SDKs.\n<li \/>click Install Selected.\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Unfortunately, I still had no targets available in Eclipse.  <b>It turned out that problem was that I had no path configured in Eclipse for the Android SDK!<\/b>  This should have been obvious, since when I selected Window | Android SDK and AVD Manager, Eclipse complained that no path was set, but since I always lauched the SDK &#038; AVD Manager from a command prompt, I never received the error dialog.  <b>The solution was to open Window | Preferences and browse to <tt>C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Android\\android-sdk<\/tt>, then press Apply<\/b>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/EclipsePreferences.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/EclipsePreferences.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"EclipsePreferences\" width=\"512\" height=\"444\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1760\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/EclipsePreferences.png 512w, https:\/\/www.curlybrace.com\/words\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/EclipsePreferences-300x260.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I installed the Android SDK and the Eclipse IDE for Java and Report Developers, but when I tried to create a new project, the Build Target list was empty.
